Great heater

Purchased this heater a few weeks ago. Easy to install, simple hose extention and brass nipple along with a low pressure regulator. Took more time finding the parts at the store than actually hooking it all up.Make sure you wrap all threads with pipe tape prior to tightening, and test the connections for leaks (dishsoap and water mixture...leak will blow bubble). After all properly tightened, fire it up!Thoughts on the heater: puts out an enormous amount of heat, especially for price. Does not come with feet, so it needs to be wall mounted, feet purchased, or some kind of stand fabricated so it is off the floor surface. I used 2 cinder blocks. Pretty stable, but I plan on getting feet of some kind for tip prevention.Draw back: radiant head pretty much goes straight up, so if you are like me and work in a non insulated garage with open rafters, most of your heat will be leaving the work shop. However, you can get the attachable fan, or just use a tall oscillating fan on low to evenly spread the warmth.**side note** everywhere I could read, this unit is said to be used with no less than a 100lb propane tank. While this might be true if you are using this heater in place of a regular home furnace, or you are keeping your garage regulated at a certain temperature; I am currently running off of a 20lb bbq grill tank with no issue. I leave it on for 1-2 hours and have not yet had any freeze up issues from over drawing the tank.

Purchased in mid-October 2012 to replace wood stove and 30+years old forced-air furnace (although instructions caution the unit is not to be used as primary heat source), installed mid-November. Ordered white/no blower, got black. Roughly $250 for the stove, $200 for independent/retired/laid-off contractor installation: Two of three natural gas appliance installers said they "don't touch them" (meaning small gas heaters generally) for vague reasons; natural gas supplier's sub-contractor half again as expensive. Hung the unit on the living room wall myself (single/divorced female, 62); hanging took maybe an hour, gas hookup involved 4 hours (mostly in/out of the basement to cut/thread heavy-iron piping on threader set up in the driveway).Home is a roughly 1300 square-feet (one large bedroom, one very small bedroom converted to walk-in closet/storage upstairs), 200-year-old fieldstone farmhouse--some new windows and attic protection but, for all intents, uninsulated. Half the downstairs (4 rooms/~800 square feet) heated in Michigan winter. Purchased unit precisely *as* primary heat source.Unit's been up/running for a little over two weeks with outside temperatures/weather ranging from low 50's to mid-teens/20's with wind/rain/snow. Thermostat dial offers settings 1-6; set it on mid-2 for more-than-adequate heat through living room/bedroom/kitchen/bath with aide of ceiling fan in living room. No doubt whatever that it will handle a Real Michigan Winter.Unit is attractive (actually prefer the black), unobtrusive, virtually silent. Slight odor of gas as thermostat/flame kicks on/off. No hard cool-down/heat-up of rooms like the old forced-air "blast" furnace; heat is as radiant/consistent as a wood stove without the work (which I loved when I could do it) and mess of wood. With the gas line piping in place, replacement, if ever necessary, would amount to the cost of a new unit.Unit has not been in operation long enough to require cleaning. Waiting for first gas bill.So far, I have no criticism of this unit whatever. It is perfectly lovely.UPDATE 01/01/2013First natural gas bill covered roughly 3 weeks' use, was easily half what the old furnace would have used/cost. Wall behind and 4-6" immediately above the mounted heater stays surprisingly cool, wall above that gets very warm but not too hot to touch/blister paint/be dangerous. Am considering purchase of another while price is reasonable.I. love. this. heater.

I bought this as backup heat for the winter and had it installed in my fireplace this is a really good heater. Looks nice in my den.The ad says it is for a garage but I had it placed in my den fireplace and it looks really nice.You cannot leave the pilot on as it will heat your house up.My house is 1550 sq.ft. so I believe it will heat the whole house in the event we have a power failure as I only got it for backup anyway. Great looking heater will most definetly buy this heater again.Have already recommend it to family members.

works fine except for startup

After using one of the little Mr. Heater "Buddy" heaters, I expected this to be the same only larger. It's not.Unlike the "Buddy", this does not have any way to regulate the heat except "on" or "off". Also, it doesn't have a pilot light. Instead, you just hold in a springloaded valve and let gas come out into the heater. There is a piezo sparker that is supposed to light it up, but I have not found it to work very well. However, using a match works OK, and a lighter-on-a-stick (for BBQs and fireplaces, etc.) would work even better.But once it is lit, it really works quite well. Radiant heaters don't heat the air directly, so the heat tends to be fairly even by the time the surrounding objects start heating the air. This does take some time, though, depending on the size of the space you are heating.Also, unlike the "Buddy", this requires ventilation, both at the ceiling and at the floor.Shutoff is done just by shutting off the valve on the propane tank. There is a safety switch, however, which prevents the heater from continuing to pump the place full of propane if the flame goes out.This is really more suited to a sheltered environment, like an unfinished garage or a carport, but not an indoor environment (like a house). I have used it in my garage. It's fairly quiet in operation, though it does moan during startup.It runs off of a regular BBQ-sized propane tank (or bigger). According to the manual, it will not work properly running from a smaller tank.

Mr. Heater 35,000 BTU Propane Radiant Heater #MH35LPThis heater is just what I was looking for. Enough heat to keep work going out in the shop when the temperature drops below freezing without the kerosene smell of some other heaters. Easy starting.

Product different than pictured

I ordered the Mr. Heater MH35LP, but received a slightly different product. The box is labeled Heatstar by Enerco with a part number of HS35LP. It is missing the wheels and upper handle as pictured by Amazon. There is a small sticker placed over the Heatstar label that says MH35LP, but it's clearly a different product and there is no reference to the Mr. Heater brand on the product or documentation.I suspect that the Mr. Heater and the Heatstar brand are manufactured by the same company and may be equally good products. However, I don't support Amazon sending an alternative product without my consent. It's false advertising to say the least.And for those that might be ok without the wheels and the handle, consider that the one I received didn't include the hardware required to install the stand that holds it upright. I can't even use this one.

Affordable and reliable.

Bought this for a 240 square foot shop in our barn. It is the perfect size for the space, and a 30 lb tank lasts almost three weeks in early winter. The thermostat is wonderful since the lowest setting keeps the space just warm enough without wasting fuel.Recommendation: If you use a heater like this, also put a ceiling fan on the opposite side of the room. We cut our fuel consumption in half when we started circulating the air on the low fan speed. Much more comfortable down by the floor too.My only regret is that the version made in the USA is twice the price, and I can't afford it :(

Perfect small heater

We installed our Kozy World KWP122 10,000-BTU heater in our 150 sq ft pump house to prevent the water pipes from freezing. We had been using an electric space heater which we felt was more expensive to operate. The pump house is minimally insulated and we have a water treatment tank and well tank in the building. So far the Kozy World have been doing a great job of keeping the pipes from freezing. It was especially important to have a thermostat. My only disappointment was that the thermostat is not calibrated by degrees of temperature but just 1,2,3,4,5. So far the lowest setting is doing the job.

Great heater!!

I love this heater. I live in 1000 sq ft home, and this is my only source of heating. It does a fantastic job of keeping us warm. We are using natural gas and the hookup was easy. We can set the thermostat control and don't have to worry. I got a gas heater because of electrical problems and power outages in the winter. This was a good choice.I like that is mounts on the wall, taking up no floor space.

GREAT HEATER!!!

THIS IS a great heater. It heats the entire first floor which is 1300 sqft and then takes the chill off the upstairs also 1300sqft. On HI the main floor get to 74 or 75F. as the temp goes in the single digits it does not hold up as well. However keep in mind that the area is larger than what they estimate it heats. Go for it you won't regret it.PS The only thing negative we found was that the wall above the heater gets very hot. Maybe thats because we did not get the fan.

Warm at Last

Hot Stuff

Despite the warnings and cautions printed in the directions, I use this little heater in a very cold, corner bathroom that often falls into the 50's on really cold days. Yes, on the highest setting, this little heater is an energy eater, but when in a really cold bathroom I don't care.My bathroom is large and adjoins a closet so it takes some oomph to warm the room. This little heater does the trick, though when taking a shower or shaving in there, I need to turn the heater on at least 15 minutes early.The fan on this heater is a little noisy, but not obtrusively so. Once the room warms up, I turn the heater down to the lower setting to save a little energy with no noticeable discomfort to me.The filter on the back of the heater gets dirty quickly and needs to be vacuumed or washed. Since the back plate is screwed on, I'd often neglect this chore rather than have to fetch a screwdriver. I finally just removed the little screw and left it off. Now the filter is more easily accessible and more often cleaned.My main reasons for buying this heater were its reduced price at the end of the season and its small size. Perfect for a bathroom. One must take great care when using this appliance in a bathroom. Also be aware that the front screen gets rather hot and can burn.

Awesome Heater

right out of the box worked great. Heated a 34x34 garage in no time at all. only problem the propane tank I was using was frozen. Temp in the garage before the heater was -5 after it was 50.

Come on in it's warm inside

This is a FANTASTIC heater but there are some things a new buyer should be aware of. It'll bring a 30x60x12 garage from 0 to 60 in about an hour and a half. However you really do need a 100 lb tank. You can get away with a 40 or 50 lb heating a smaller area on low otherwise the tanks will condense and shut off the gas flow to the heater. They are louder than you'd expect if you haven't used one of these before because of the blower fan. Think mini jet. I've also used the convection style heaters and depending on your needs these are both great. The convection style is much quieter but takes a fair bit longer to heat a large space and you won't get as even a heat in the room. You need to heat a small open space cheaply? Look here

I'm in the process of insulating and paneling a 12x30 portable building to be used as a workshop. During the winter it get's a bit cold here. I got this hoping it would heat the building enough to work comfortably. I couldn't. Kept having to turn it off after every 15 minutes of run time and wait 45 minutes to an hour before needing it again. That's a lot of heat from a device that's slightly larger than ones thigh. It uses very little propane for a LOT of heat. I heartily recommend it.
