Excellent
By aaron7405
Its a excellent product but you will have to be carafull to manage it because the ceramic body breaks easely, still will work at perfection the heater strip material. If you use it without a controller your plastics as 1/2"thick will bubble before get to the point of bending if you try to heat them just from 1 side, What I did is flip the pice (1/2") every minute for 7-10 minutes and that will do the bending with out bubble the plastic. Also I think you can work it with thicker materials as 3/4 or maybe an 1" but you will need to be flip them. Also the guys from FTM, Inc. ship me really fast and very helpfull.Aaron

Works great
By cckf
Used it for camping for two nights. Once off of a disposable cannister, once off a 20-lb tank with the 12-ft extension hose. Worked great each time. Had to supplement the pilot light electronic iginition with a match/lighter each time, which was no big deal, but would think if it has electronic iginition, it should work, hence the reduced rating.

Just OK not wonderful
By George Stuart Bower
I bought this unit so that when we went camping in the Van and it was cold we'de have some heat......and it works in that dept....good heat output. But of course you can't leave it on all night (totally logical and I knew that going into it. That is not a problem). So there really is only a couple minor things about the heater:1) It's going to smell a little when you light it. The combustion process is not that efficient right after you light it up. I did not have a big problem with that when I went camping by myself but my wife complained about it on a subsequent camping trip to Silverton, Colorado (elev 9400').2) It did not want to light at 9400' altitude when it was cold in the morning. This problem was solved by just using a long snouted BBQ lighter (you know like a Bic cigarette lighter)in order to light the pilot light. What I found that worked better than the Buddy Heater for getting up at night for potty was just an old fashioned 250 watt infrared electric light bulb like we used to have in bathrooms in the old days. However you will need batteries and an inverter (which I have and are not all that expensive). So the Buddy heater is there if it gets really cold (in the morning) but the electric infrared heater works best if you have to get up to pee at night.Don't forget you CAN NOT use this gas heater in an unventilated space. The instructions tell you the minimum venting requirements!I give it 3 out of 5 stars.

Excellent Product
By Michael Smith
I purchased a Mr. Heater for a cold weekend hunting trip. It worked really well and kept us nice and warm. The only complaint I have is that it's relatively easy to blow the pilot light out. I only plan to use mine inside a trailer or tent. A side note, for me, a 1 lbs propane tank lasted for 3 hours...

Works better than electric heaters!
By J. Challender
We bought this item originally as an inexpensive, alternative heat source in the Winter, when we can lose electricity for hours, even days, when a bad storm rolls through. It quickly became our main heat source -- as unlike the two, 15,000 btu, electric space heaters we'd been using -- this can heat a cold room within 30 minutes. And, all by itself, heats the entire house better than those two other heaters running together. And we only once turned it to the third setting. It usually stays on 1.To clarify, we live in a very small space: 750 square feet in a very old, single-wide, with windows that no longer seal well. The weather here is moderately cold -- we drop into the teens rarely, but stay solidly in the mid 20s-early 30s at night in winter. Days stay in the 30s. With the exception of if we have one of those storms, then all bets are off.We ran this, with a little supplementary electrical heat during the day -- I suspect if we'd got the 30,000 btu one, it would have heated the house completely, even on the colder days.We don't run it at night, as it's in the living room. And because we're a little chicken of running propane when we sleep. But, in the morning, it brings the room quickly back to toasty -- never more than 30 mins.We installed it ourselves -- with a bit of help from my uncle. Runs with two 50 lb=10 gal tanks. One tank lasts just about a week in the colder weather, and costs $24 to fill. So it's only a hundred a month -- half what our heating bill was last year.Last year, even with 3, electric, 15,000 btu heaters running, the house was never as toasty warm as it is with this propane heater.Only note: If you use the tanks, only turn the knob slightly on. We found it eats through propane quicker if turned fully on. But has no apparent ill effect if the tank is only barely turned on.And?The blue flames are just lovely. :)Highly recommended!

It puts out heat.
By Logix
This has been a good little heater for me so far, I am using to heat a fish house. I'm not sure about the review stating that it need to be professionally installed though, to connect it to a 20 lbs cylinder (BBQ tank) you need buy a separate house with a regulator. It is available through Mr. Heater, part # F273072 (12' Propane Hose/Regulator Assembly), I purchased this at my local hardware store. My only complaint on this heater is that the built in fan doesn't move any air. I'm not even sure why they put it in there, because it really doesn't do anything. I just bought a separate fan to circulate the air and have been pleased with it.

Mr. Heater
By Blake J. Stine
I recently installed this unit in my two car attached garage. I ran black pipe through the wall and attached it to a 20lb LP tank from my grill until I can get a bigger tank. The unit puts out good heat. It comes on at full so dont think you can adjust the output. But what it does do is bring the room up to temp then cycle off per the thermostat. Has some odor but I think that will disapate as it ages and burns off any newness. Battery operated ignition works very well. The only fault I find is the fan. It appears big enough but does not move a lot of air, design flaw perhaps. What it does do well is cycle on and off on it's own if you put it on the auto setting, good feature. I have not had it long enough to determin the gas usage, have my fingers crossed on that one. Overall I am very pleased as it out performs my electric ceiling mounted heater as well as a 23000 btu kerosene heater.

Photo Cell for kersoene heater
By T. R. Rice
I ordered a new photo cell from Amazon and it shipped from Desa ( somepalce around Dallas). Arrived in 3 days, was as advertised and upon arrival installed in less than 5 minutes. Resolved the shutdown problem and now heater is like new. The test procedure is good reference. The photo cell has very high resistance ( someplace in meg ohm range) when no light available. With a 60 watt bulb the resistance should be below 500 ohms ( not a fully closed contact). The new one has about 45 ohms resistance with a 60 watt light source and apparently the flame has a light source about the same intensity as a 60 watt bulb. Safety swithc now works as it should.Desa International PP216-MP4 Photo Cell

Not EXACTLY like a fire, but pretty.
By Name Withheld
Some critter got under the house and detached our heating ducts a few years ago so we only use electric heat and ambient heat from other rooms in the livingroom. I was looking for a better space heater after an Econoheat panel shorted and melted while I slept. The problem with most space heaters is they are UGLY. They look like they belong in a garage. I wanted something that looked like a piece of furniture that wouldn't set fire to my cats and that could heat up a big room with open doorways. I should also mention that I have a humor-based decorating style, so whether someone else will find it tacky or not is of no concern to me. I don't invite people without a sense of humor into my home.Anyway, I went with this. On a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being an orange spotlight behind a fan blowing white bits of fabric around like some Halloween decorations, and 10 being a real fire, I'd give it a 7.5. It only looks like a real fire if you're not looking directly at it. The foily logs help a bit and it does have a slight 3D effect that makes it better than some, but even if you add a crackling fire mp3 and burn wood incense in the room no one is going to mistake it for a real fire. That's not to say I don't like it. It does provide that hypnotizing effect you look for in a fireplace!Additionally, it was 35 degrees F last night. I live in a farmhouse with 4 inch walls and cellulose insulation. I put it in my livingroom, which is approximately 500 sq feet, with an open doorway, 2 large windows, a sliding glass door, no basement, and an open stairway. It kept the room at 72 to 74 degrees all night. It seems to be of sturdy construction. The top stays cool. The fan is very quiet. It's also light and portable. Overall I'm satisfied enough to get another one for my office.

Heats wonderfully, looks great!
By H. Stiles
We got this stove as a Christmas gift this year. My husband and I were both VERY surprised at how nice it actually looks. The fire effect is very realistic for an electric unit, far more convincing than any other brands we have seen; as we have several friends with electric fireplaces and stoves made by different companies besides this one. I had researched Dimplex brand fireplaces before, and everything they claim is true...no other brand electric fireplace (at least that I have seen) really comes close to the realism that they have come up with in their units. Of course nothing will ever beat the look of real logs burning, but this is still great looking nonetheless. We use it in our 14x17 bedroom, and it warms the room up nicely, in fact TOO nicely, as we are usually sweating to death halfway through the night! We have an old, drafty Victorian house that has very little heat coming into the room at all, and this little guy does a great job. We are planning on getting a plug-in thermostat to go with it. In fact, that is my only complaint. I wish it had a built-in thermostat so you could set a temperature for the room. Because if you use a plug-in thermostat it will turn the entire unit off, including the flame effect, which I actually really like to sit and enjoy, whether the heat is on or not.I read another review about this stove that the door does not open. Hmmm, that's interesting, because ours does open. When I showed it to my mother and opened the door for her, she was convinced enough that she put her hands in front of the "flames" to feel the warmth. We like the stove so much we ordered black flue pipe and a collar so that it looks like it's attached to the chimney that runs up the one wall of the room. We are also building a tile hearth board for it to sit on. If you need extra heat in a room, but want something that looks nice at the same time, this little stove really does the trick!

Dimplex Compact best portable heat source for the money
By Jacqueline R. Florio
I purchased this product for its nice looks at first ...then when i used it ,i couldn't believe how fast and hot this item worked to heat my bedroom 14 x 16 ...I have to get up in the middle of the night and turn it off ...also I use a ceiling fan to circulate the heat as well ...I have 5 people ,5 electric stoves in my home as a main source of heat ..my bill with other electric appliances , tv 's ,washer ,dryer and lights was only $ 115.00 this month ....I have oil heat but keep my regular thermostat on 58 due to over $3.30 a gallon for oil ...This product works better and even saves more money on electric then even those infrared or those Amish heaters that are advertised lately using 12 cents an hour to heat your home ...Beware of those ...I've tried them also .....a lot higher bills then they stated ...Dimplex is the way to go ...its quiet ,efficient, and looks great ..5 stars from me ...=0) Happy Glowing......

Broan Model 120 Heater, 500/1000 Watt 120 volt
By Joe
I purchased this unit to be installed in a wall in a bathroom as an auxiliary heater. I am pleased with its performance. At the 1000 watt setting it does produce adequate heat. At the 500 watt setting, it heats, but a bit weak. The fan is reasonably quiet. It's easy to install.
