Good heater for a small room or office. Here are real world specifications!

I bought this heater because I wanted three selectable heat settings so I could adjust the temperature of the air coming from the unit. Most heaters tend to produce a small amount of very hot air (especially ceramic heaters). The problem with this is that contributes to air stratification--the heat rises quickly to the top of the room and the floor remains cool. This unit has three heat settings from which to choose, and since it is a standard resistance heater and fan, it produces a (comparatively) large amount of warm air (as compared to a small amount of very hot air).The package claims that the heat settings are 600, 900, and 1500 watts. (Most heaters are 1500 watts on their highest setting). However, I used a Kill A Watt meter, which registers the exact wattage, and recorded the results.On fan-only: 10 wattsLow heat: 530 wattsMedium heat: 770 wattsHigh heat: 1270 wattsAs you can tell, it is not quite 1500 watts, but this is totally fine with me--I just want it to gently warm the area around my desk at work, not bake a turkey. Also, an added advantage is that a standard 15 amp electrical outlet can carry a maximum wattage of 1875 watts. Since my computer and monitor must also be plugged into this outlet, and an average computer and monitor are 400 watts together, this will bring me to a total of 1670 watts--enough that I do not have to worry about tripping a circuit breaker.The unit quiet and is thermostatically controlled; it turns on and off as it reaches the desired temperature. With that said, it does not have a digital thermostat that some of the nicer models have. You will need to guess and test to see if you prefer it set to "warmer" or "cooler" or somewhere in between. For the record, the coolest temperature mine will allow is 65ºF.

This reasonably- priced heater effectively, quickly, warmed up a cold, medium-sized bathroom . While it does not have a swivel feature, it operates at low noise level and has a good air output. We are quite satisfied with it.

MY CAT AND I LOVE THIS LITTLE HEATER

When I first opened the package I wondered how such a small heater could do very much to warm up my bedroom which is about 11x12 and on a northwest corner. It can become quite chilly in the winter months. I place the heater on the floor and set it on medium heat with the fan on high. Within about 30 minutes the chill is gone and the room is comfortable at which time I turn it off before getting under the covers. My cat plops himself down 1 to 2 feet from it and peacefully sleeps until I turn it off at which time he joins me on my bed. As I live in SoCal it rarely gets below 34 degrees at night so I can't say how good it would be for colder climes.

Love, Love, Love

I received this as a Christmas present and absolutely love this product. It was easy to assemble. Our home is 1820 sq feet and this product is in our living room. I have been able to keep my thermostat on my central unit on 68 degrees. This heater heats a large portion of our home, about 840 sq ft. Not only does it distribute the heat well, it is beautiful. Now I am just waiting on my electric bill and am hoping to see a decrease. I will update about that later.

I love this unit... Not as big as some electric fireplace units but we set ours up on a corner table in the livingroom and it looks great! The wood is beautiful. Our visitors have all commented on how nicely our new (electric) fireplace looks and how it has brought a warm, cozy, and inviting autmosphere into our home.

Insane in the membrane . . .

Love love love love and love this thing. Fortunately I was able to buy it a few years back when it was in the $130-140 range. I've taken it on no less than 20 camping trips and although it is bulky, I wouldn't trade it's heat output for anything.A few things I LOVE about it - it's got 3 seperate settings. I bought a Big Buddy (4k-9k BTU) heater and hated it because the 4k wouldn't get the tent hot enough, then the 18k would scorch the place. I would have to wake up 15x's to adjust it back and forth. This one has a 3rd option, which I use regularly.Also I can use 1 or 2 propane canisters OR a BBQ tank/hose, which I usually have camping anyway. Love that option! It's a little finicky to ignite at times, but once it ignites, it's lights out baby. It also has a fan thats operated by 6D batteries, but I don't think I've ever had the need to use that.My wife teaches dance in the garage and in the winter the temp gets down in the 30's-40's. This little heater will heat up the garage (about 500 sq ft) in about 20 minutes on high. Then she'll back it down to low or medium for confort.Did I mention I love this thing? Aside from the bulkiness of it, it's been a life saver and very dependable. Easily one of my top 3 favorite camping items I own.

Bought this from another seller because at the time it was too high on Amazon, a rare thing. I'm reviewing it because in a power failure this is a must have item. You need the hose also to connect it to larger tanks - a 20 lb. propane tank is ideal, and you should have 2 or 3 or more on hand - as the two 1 lb. tanks won't last long. Any of the Mr. Heaters are worth the money and function well, but this is my favorite.

Best One Yet

I recently purchased this item but was hesitant on reviews from others. Needless to say Im glad I bought this one. Heat is awesome, thermostat is accurate and its fairly quite compared to others I have tried. All in all this heater has done what others couldn't do which is heat my living room taking the chill out of the air. And from were Im from it goes to -40c. Good job Sunpentown and I even ordered another one for the basement, just a different model.

Heats up quickly. Use it downstairs and it warms up the top rooms. The filter does pull out dust and stuff in the air. I bought it because I have asthma. Price was better than the home improvement stores.

Mix results....

The heater worked great the first month; however, now it randomly turns off and have to completely power down and let it sit a few minutes and then restart it. It's as if there's a fuse or breaker inside that triggers and needs to reset. It is in a well-ventilated area that is not warm with full power. Just does not hold up to the winter....

The chord to plug into the socket tho is the same as my 24,000 BTU a/c....it's a Big thick 10 gauge chord with a 30 am terminal.Anyhow, of you have a 30 amp socket, your good to go.This unit is is waaaaaaaaaaaay Hotter than ANY standard plug in heater. Those at BEST will give you 5,100 BTU, this unit gives you 16,000 BTU's. About as much as a kerosene heater.Has your typical controls for a heater, on off, and a thermostat by numbers (1 to 6). I highly recommend this Heater for anyone ho has no central heat or you need heat in your garage or work shed, this is perfect.

Nice little heater. Works well keeping a vacant space warm through the winter. Note that this is a 208/230 volt unit so plan to have the proper circuit available. A little smaller than expected but it's still fine.

VERY simple unit, good heat output

I bought this for my 20'x20' semi-insulated attached garage in Wisconsin. It cranks out some heat, but not enough to realistically heat that garage in the winter unless it runs ALL the time. Nicely built unit, VERY simple, basically a coil, fan, and thermostat. There is nothing else inside this thing. When I turned this unit on, and placed it next to my existing 120V 1500W fan heater ($10 type model), I had to check several times because I didn't even think the 1500w heater was turned on! This unit cranks out some heat for it's size. It's basically the size of two shoeboxes taped together, or maybe a pice of paper, it's very small. It helps in the garage, but I found that it is better used in my basement where it can make a bid difference in just a few minutes of use.Remember you need a 30 amp 240 volt outlet for this. I used my dryer outlet, since I now have a gas dryer. I made up an extension cord that plugs into the existing dryer outlet, and has the 30 amp NEMA outlet on the other end. I got all the stuff at Home Depot, and the cord will be the most expensive part (you need 12 guage, 3 conductors total, no neutral needed).All in all- not big enough for the garage, but works nice in the workshop. 4800 watts is a lot of power though so I expect a big electric bill :)

So far works very well

I received this portable ceramic heater from Amazon Vine for an honest review. Here's my take on it.It arrived well packed in a box with a registration form and an easy-to-read instruction manual. The heater itself is cylindrical with a black plastic case and stands 15 inches high. A centrifugal fan forces warm air out from the top vent in all directions. After reading the instructions, I tested it in my rather chilly breakfast room and found that it warms the room relatively quickly.The eight-setting thermostatic control maintains the selected comfort level (I set the control to 70 degrees for testing purposes, though I would normally set it cooler. Within ten minutes, the breakfast room/kitchen area was comfortable. The control knob can be set from 50 degrees Fahrenheit to 85 degrees with the unit marked both in Fahrenheit and Celsius. There's another setting for "Continuous Heat."The Whirlpool ceramic heater draws air in from just atop the base and pushes it out the top as mentioned above. The exterior is a black plastic in a slightly obelisk shape with a control knob in the lower middle and a power push-button control above with low heat (900 watts), high heat (1500 watts) settings and an LED to show if the heater is on. Safety features include an automatic shut-off if the unit tips over or overheats and a flame-resistant enclosure. A heat-resistant handle on the back side aids in moving the unit.There are specific usage instructions stating that the heater should be placed at least three feet away from drapes and furniture. Also, it should not be used with an extension cord or power strip. The heater should be powered off before unplugging it from an outlet, and cleaning should be done at least once a month and before seasonal storage.I am not a fan of ceramic heaters, however, I live in a very large Tudor-style house in which we heat only the rooms we use, so portable heaters fit our needs better than running the pricey propane furnace. The opportunity to review and use the Whirlpool Centrifugal Fan-Assisted Ceramic Heater fit right into my plans. While I doubt that it can surpass or replace my Vornado heaters, for now I am impressed with its performance. I have a drafty upstairs art studio and this unit seems ideal for that area since I can place it in the center of the room.We've just had our first cool spell; I'll report back after I've had a chance to test the heater in cold weather.So far, so good, but one all-too-frequent nit for this reviewer is that the Whirlpool is made in China.

Great for small office/bedroom

Love this heater. Very good for a small office/bedroom. Heats room up within 10 minutes. It's quiet which is a HUGE plus for me. I would recommended this product.

If Darth Vader Were a Heater

If Darth Vader were a heater, this is what he would look like. More important: this uncomplicate heater quickly rises to the temperature you set, has a high and low setting, and best of all, automotically turns off when the room gets too hot, so you don't find yourself gasping for water in the middle of the night. I tried this out when I arrived at our cabin in the woods over Thankgsiving weekend, and was more than satisfied by how warm and toasty it made my bedroom. Well worth the investment.
