Solid product.
By Barry Seavey
Got this for supplemental heat in my (all too often) cool office.I chose this particular unit because it has the option of running at either 1500W (like most) or 750W. Being able to run this at a lower power means I won't be utilizing most of the line's power capability & have less of a risk of blowing the circuit breaker. It is quiet, save a few minor 'clicks' when it cycles on/off to maintain the set temp (digital setting to an exact number, much better than a nondescript dial going from 'low' to 'high' or some equally nonsense range of 1-10).Timer function is nice, so it can be set to go off automatically, so no need to remember to turn it off. Accuracy on the timer is a bit sketchy, though. I set it for 9 hr after I get in, & it will go anywhere from the exact time to 15-20 min sooner. Not a major issue for me.

Good Little Heater Holmes Model # HFH442
By J. Lewis
In Michigan, I use this heater during the fall and winter months to blast a bit of heat into a 6X7 bathroom in those wee hours when the temp in the house is btw 66 & 68 degrees. It warms the air rapidly and quickly mitigates the cold chill. This lightweight heater is easily transported and has an easy hand grip on top. This will be my third winter with it. I use it daily up to 4 hours. The noise of the unit can get to you if you have it on while reading or relaxing. I have forgotten about it and the unit, coming on at night, has awakened me.I have also used it to warm a 14X12 space, but there are other units better suited to warm larger spaces that won't dry out the air. Like the Holmes HQH308 or the Delonghi EW750L.I purchased this unit off season -so I got an extraordinary deal- another reason I like it so much.I also have the Holmes HFH2986-U Whisper Quiet Power Heater. The thermostat has never worked on the unit -only the continuous HI / LO setting. I don't like this as well. This unit is cumbersome, fat and not easy to grip to pick up and transport to another space.I would recommend the Holmes HFH442 if needed to quickly heat small areas quickly.

Ice Lady
By D. Sumlin
I was recommended to always purchase a holmes heater with a thermostate 10 years ago. Well, they finally quit on me. I couldn't find them like this one in any store. It's great to use if you don't feel like burning the fireplace. It's safe around my home especially with the ALCI.It knocks the chill out of the air almost immediately depending on what you set the thermostate on!These heaters are the best> I know because I have tried others. Always get one with a thermostate. It's like the central heat in the home. It cuts off automatically when reach that temp and comes back on! I love my heater!Holmes Heater Fan With ALCI

A really good purchase
By daybehnke
This under rug heater was purchased for an outdoor enclosure where our several semi feral cats spend cold winter nights. So far it seems to be working out wonderfully well and I'm only sorry that I didn't get one a long time ago. I hesitated due to the cost, but I'm sure I've wasted much more than it's price on heated pet beds which have not held up at all well.

Warm and toasty carpet in my freezing bathroom!
By cjsterling
My master bath is over the garage and not well insulated. It's so chilly taking a shower in the morning. We got a timer and set the Rugbuddy to warm up about 1/2 hour before my husband gets up. The bathroom is warmer. Standing on the rug really warms you up. It won't warm the room significantly but just standing on it after getting out of the shower and while getting ready is much more comfortable. I even lay my clothing out on the rug and by the time I get out of the shower they are warmed up. This is a great product!

Product Description

The Original SUNHEAT SH-1500, with Made in USA cabinetry, provides safe, soft, comfortable infrared warmth for any area of the home or office, up to 1,000 sq ft. This portable, supplemental, 1500 watt electronic infrared heater features a 5 year parts and labor warranty, a simple set and forget thermostat, lifetime washable filter, and heavy duty 12 gauge power cord. It cannot start a fire, is safe to operate anywhere, all the time, even around children and pets but best of all it will slash your heating costs. The infrared heater was first developed and sold in the early 1980's using four flood lamps and a flat piece of sheet metal as the heat sink. SUNHEAT International distributed this USA made product for many years before the manufacturer sold out. The mass marketing company, now selling the self proclaimed famous infrared heater, immediately started having a plastic product built overseas. In 2006, SUNHEAT went back to the drawing board and the original infrared heater was upgraded to six quartz infrared heating elements housed in 24 ounces of copper creating more even heat. Upgrades to the SH-1500 included a fan that lasts over seven times longer than any of its competitors, solid hardwood tops, military grade wiring and an appliance grade 90 degree plug among others. Soon after, the very first infrared electric fireplace was engineered, designed and developed by the family owned and operated Nebraska SUNHEAT team. While not brought to the big city by horse and carriage or even by Amish, each SH-1500 is quality control checked in Central City, NE and placed in an all wood (no plastic) made in USA cabinet. Sleep well knowing your family is safe from a heater that cannot start a fire, your bones are soothed from the infrared carried into your home and knowing you are helping preserve the environment and your country.

Excellent option for occaisional heating needs...
By Victor H. Agresti
208/240v Electric HeaterStep 1: I wanted to work comfortably in an attached 22 x 22 (9 foot high drywalled ceiling) garage in the winter. Figuring I'd need lots of heat, I bought a portable 40,000 btu propane heater. It exhausts lots of carbon monoxide, so you have to partially open a door or window to the outside to let [cold] fresh air in -- which seriously lowers heater efficiency. The heater warmed the garage, but the approach wasn't satisfactory -- i.e., the fumes were so bad, I stopped using it. It was also very loud, like the hissing of escaping air from a large air boat; plus, when the propane tank ran out, the heater stopped; each time you needed heat, you had to drag it out, connect it to the tank, leave plenty of floor space around this self-contained-blowtorch; put it all away when you were done; and of course find a place to store it. Also, there was no thermostat. All in all, a royal pain in the keister. (Google search on: "propane heater carbon monoxide" to read about the serious risk of carbon monoxide from propane heaters.)Step 2: I bought one of these electric heaters. It has only half the btu's of the propane unit, but there is no need to open a window or door for ventilation. It also has a thermostat, so you can set it (to a number, not a temperature), and come back 30 minutes later and be in relative comfort. On days in the low 30s, it will keep the garage in the 60s, which is fine for working.. (My attached garage ceiling and 2 walls are insulated.) My heater is mounted high up on a wall, but it can also be mounted to hang from the ceiling, as long as the clearances laid out in the instructions, are followed. In any case, once mounted, it is out of the way, and always ready. There's nothing to haul out or set up when you need heat -- just turn it on. When done, just turn it off. This heater needs a dedicated 30-amp 220-volt circuit. You wouldn't want to use this every day, due to electricity costs, but for occasional use, it is perfect. My advice is to skip step 1.Note: As of this writing, Amazon sells this heater under several names:- Fahrenheat Ceiling-Mount Automatic 5000 Watt Electric Heater, Model# FUH5-4- Fahrenheat/Marley FUH54 Suspended Electric Heater- Dayton G73 Electric Garage Heater- Multi-Watt Horizontal Downflow Unit Heater With Thermostat 208/240vThese are all the same heater; it is manufactured by Marley Engineered Products of Bennettsville, South Carolina.

decent
By TimKarp
I currently have the fireplace floor standing but think it will look much better wall mounted. It is electric so the flame is basically a light bulb that flickers with a motor rotating foil. Looks decent but can def tell its a fake flame. The heat it produces is minimal and may be good for a bedroom but not anything much bigger. The heat is pushed out the top of the unit so nothing can be with 4ft of the top. Also since heat rises most of it goes right up to ceiling. I have a ceiling fan to help with this. The glass cover is nice and makes it look nice when hung on wall. The unit looks nice and modern and produces some heat. It's more for looks than for purpose.

Sleek, Contemporary...Just Right
By Tanya
I like this sleek contemporary black fireplace. The white coals are real and have to be placed on the bottom shelf before sliding on the black frame. Right now I am just using it for decoration. I haven't tried the heat settings yet. I placed it on the bottom shelf of my baker's rack. I removed the top shelf of my baker's rack because the instructions say to leave a specified amount of space at the top when the heat is on. I chose this product because a similar product from another store was sold out. I like this product better because it can be either wall mounted or free standing. The product I originally wanted was 36" wide and wall mount only. I think it may have been dangerous to mount the other 36" wide product on the wall. This one is just right for me.Tanya

beautiful and functional

This item is just what we needed. I love it - it provides heat and a beautiful glow in the fireplace. The shelves can handle all our audio/visual components so it worked out perfectly.

Decent but Overpriced
By CuzMikDontTalkAbout
The Dimplex Vancouver electric fireplace media console is a middle of the line entertainment center. It has some nice features but some things could be better.Quality:The quality is decent. Once you have it put together it's fairly sturdy. It doesn't feel like it's going to fall apart like some fo the cheaper models.Assembly:The assembly is very easy. It only took about 30 mintues from start to end.Materials:Over all the materials are decent. The glass feels solid and thinck enough. The pipes are solid steel. The wood is the only bummer. Real wood would have put this unit over the top. Instead they used that crappy press board. It's not as bad as the sawdust ones but it's still not great.Fireplace:The fireplace looks somewhat real. They use mirrors and crushed glass to make the fire effect look 3D. The heat it puts off is good but I wish the fan was stronger. It would heat the room much faster with a slightly stronger fan.Cost to Value:Not good. This unit would be a great deal at $450 to $500 range. At $700 it's just not worth it. I bought this unit when it was on sale for $575 and that was too much. If they used real wood then $575 would have been a value.Overall this is a decent unit that will be a good buy once the price comes down.
