Over the years, I've owned a number of foot massaging units with heat, and kept them under my desk for comfort. The massaging functions were always too loud for an office environment, so I started using only the heat functions.I just received my foot buddy in the mail yesterday, and am already addicted. With regard to the quality of heat, it is comparable to other foot units -- you're not going to be able to, say, cook soup on it or anything, but it's comforting... like waking up, snuggled under a blanket on a snowy day... but for your *feet*.I am particularly a fan of this unit over past units because the removable foot cover is comfy, and helps distribute the heat all around my toes -- not just the bottoms of my feet. Also, I've found the multiple heights adjustments to be wonderful, so I can change seating positions throughout the day for comfort. Thanks!

The Foot Buddy is awesome. Even on low, my feet are completely comfortable. On high, they were actually a little too hot. I was using a small space heater (also made by Holmes); at 1500 watts, my toes were still cold. I've been able to turn down the thermostat in the house and still be snug. There is, I suppose, a small heating element just beneath where your feet sit, and that's how it's able to maintain such relief for less energy than a common light bulb.Put your stocking feet into the soft, slipper-like pouches that are velcroed to the unit. At any point, you can remove the fleece foot pockets and wash them. Thank you Holmes, please make more; they're hard to find.

I bought this item for my wife. She spends a lot of time on the computer, so, this item is part of the daily now. Built in temp control and foot pedal on/off is a plus.;-)
